2018 End of Season Laying up Dinner and Prize Giving.
Mullingar Sailing Club’s annual Laying Up Dinner took place in the Annebrook Hotel on Saturday 10th November . As always it was a very enjoyable night and a chance to catch up after the busy sailing season on Lough Owel. Amongst the prize winners for the season were:
Alan Pinder and Jack Hayes – Sunday Series 1 and Sunday Series 3
Pat McArdle and Veronica Lucey - Sunday Series 2
Stuart McCormick and Bernie Briody – Wednesday Series 1 and 2
Alan Pinder and his crew Jack Hayes won the Club Championship Shield.
Club commodore Sean Duffy commended Michael Collender and Brian Walker who were awarded the Traveller Shield for competing at away events. Others travelling away for competitions were Caoimhe Hunt who competed in the Hot Toddy in Newtownards, and Alan Pinder and Jack Hayes who sailed in three away events and took a 1st silver in the Purcell in Swords. Also mentioned were Stuart McCormick and Bernie Briody who sailed in two away events and took bronze in the Leinsters.
Special thanks was extended to Roisin Hackett the club’s senior instructor and her team of instructors who had a busy season on Lough Owel providing sail training to over 100 children and young people. Commodore Sean Duffy also thanked the many committee members who gave of their time freely to work on child protection, data protection, the new website, junior courses and the many work parties to maintain the premises as well as all those who helped to run national regattas.
